The absolute funniest thing about both those pundits is this sentence from his manifesto:

"Myself and many more like me do not necessarily have a
personal relationship with Jesus Christ and God. We do however believe in
Christianity as a cultural, social, identity and moral platform. This makes us
Christian."

You could use that to argue that he isn't really a Christian... but then you'd have to have read some of the manifesto...clearly beyond these 'journalists' ...

So from skimming sections of his manifesto: he thinks he's Christian... but he seems to have trouble with God and Jesus.... and he wants a Christian society... without the church... or maybe with it... in other sections he wants a secular state, but the church should have the power to violently defend itself....and then a whole section on the 13th century papal indulgence that forgives all sins for crusaders.....confused much?

What did we expect from a mass murderer?

I keep seeing parallels to Mein Kampf, which fills me with horror looking at the current world economic mess... if Europe takes a big tumble the situation will be ripe for such a manifesto to be used by the next charismatic lunatic off the press....

Dhugal dearest, as your Finnish friend I have to correct that the verb for love is rakastaa. Just to say love (as a phenomenom) = rakkaus. I love = rakastan. Thank you for writing this. Tibet is truly amazing, so beautiful... Spend as much time as you can there :)

I've been planning to continue the Three Kingdoms stories in the next month... I went to so many places that feature in the books.. Jingzhou, Xiangfan, Longzhong, Nanjing, Wuhan (twice), passed Zhang Fei's tomb on the Yangtze, Chengdu, Luoyang, Hanzhong and, my highlight, Mianxian - Kongming's tomb... You can still fire an operating Zhuge Nu there :)

our trip to tibet was cancelled this year, but reading about your experience about the country,
i'm looking forward to reviving the trip next year and possibly extending it.

found your site while searching for a 3 kingdoms tour of china. skimmed through most of that part of your journal,
(too many few spoilers :) - I'm only 1/4 of the way through the book but now thanks to your pics, I'm now able to put a face to those names.

I've had a similar theory for some time now... if I write or tell something to somebody else, it gets released from my subconscious and stops tormenting me. This is a good thing if what I'm saying is something I need to stop worrying about and a very bad thing if it's something I really should be worrying about and acting on...

An application of this theory explains why so much awesome artwork is produced by artists living a crap existence... they channel the pain into creating the story in artistic form to move it from themselves... this would also explain why so many artists go to shit once they get hugely popular and rich and dont have those stresses to work from anymore....

Well so far this rule applied in Turkey, Russia and China... if you wanted something to drink, smoke or snack food to eat, there was always one there, 24 hrs a day :)

Didn't quit at the time, but currently down to a couple of beers every few days and 1 cigarette with them... Actually feeling a lot better and am starting to find more time in my day for better things to do.. like writing stories, drinking coffee and enjoying life in Indonesia...
